Reading train - Improve your reading skills

How much should I charge for tutoring Childhood level (1st to 6th gr) children for math or reading?

Should I charge per session or per hour? I have an associates degree in Childhood Education and am working towards my bachelors. I do have education in the field, so I know that makes a difference. Any parents or fellow teachers out there, I would love your opionion!! :)

  1. I think you should charge per person and you should have them pay 15$ per student every month.
  2. 5,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 dollars. If you can.
  3. It depends on what part of the country you are from. My wife is a tutor in the Northeast; she gets between $25-$35 per hour and never works by the session -- always by the hour.
  4. Sylvan learning center charge 40 per hour where I live. I would check with other places in your area and see what the going rate is and be a little less.
  5. I pay $15/hr for maid service. Tutoring academics should be worth twice that of a housekeeper. Don't you think?
  6. This really depends on what rates are in your region. I always charge by the hour and expect to be paid at each lesson. If I know the client or have worked them for a long time, I sometimes bill monthly. When you set your fee, consider that any freelancer, which is what you will be, actually "takes home" only about 50% of the fee. I know you actually keep all the money, but once you think of all the things that go into having any business, service sellers get to keep about 50%. That means that if you charge $20, your "real" pay is $10. Whatever you decide to charge, look the client in the eye when you give your quote and don't back down. (This is assuming that you know what the local rates are.) Don't argue. If someone says it's too much, you can say, "Let me know if you change your mind." Of course you can exchange services if that works for you. Just don't let yourself be begged into working for nothing unless you don't need the money and you truly want to give your service away. The client you take for low rates fills up time that another paying client coming up your walk 2 minutes later could have taken.
