How to cultivate the reading interest and habit of children from 7-12 and 13-15?

To make reading more fun. Hopefully, this will improve their English. Are there any websites?

  1. Pick things that will be of interest to them. Books made for kids those ages, articles that are about kids their age, etc. Video games also help with reading and English and also some tv shows and movies.
  2. http://english-zone.com/index.php?ID=6 THIS IS WHAT MY 7 YEAR OLD KID GOES WHEN HE USE THE COMPUTER!
  3. First, you, the parents or the people that take care of those children have to read, teach the kids thats is fun, is awesome, is right to read. Give them a role model because parents that read, children that read. Then, you have to give them good interesting books, according to their age and personal taste. Young children: fairy tales, Barney, Barbie, anything that they can find exciting, elder children: Moby Dick, Sandokan, Harry Potter, etc, etc. There is a lot of good books for children. I use to read a tale every night to my 4 years old daughter, i hope that she will love to read, just like i do. In the future i will recommend her some book that i read before, I think that will be the better example.
  4. There's a great website called http://www.guysread.com that promotes books geared towards boys. They have a tendency to lose their love for reading quicker than girls, and this site promotes the "cool" stuff.
  5. I just try to find a lot of books that they will really like. I homeschool a 7 year old and 13 year old. My 7 year old likes dinosaur and dragon books and my 13 year old likes mythology (a boy) and he's really enjoying a series by Rick Riordan, which includes a bit of Greek mythology, about a half god/half boy who goes to a summer camp with other half gods "The Lightning Thief" which is great for 13 to 15 year olds. It's hard finding websites for older children, but I would recommend http://www.bookadventure.org Its got a list of 7000 books on the site of books that are considered Kindergarten level to Grade 8 level (easy to challenging). After reading the book, the child takes a quiz which helps them earn points towards a reward they can earn on the site. You can also customize your own prize(s) as well and add it to the Prize Library if you wish.
