- You need to get hooked on a good series/author. If you like military/air force types of stuff Dale Brown is really good. His first book is Flight of the Old Dog. Many people like Stephan King, I have not read any of his books, but they're supposed to be really good.
- well i dunno, i usually like self help/ psycology/how to books since i cant read anything like that on the newspaper, TV, radio, magazines etc. they are very interesting and keep the boredom low. some i recommend are: books about how to read faster one book called :how to stop worrying and start living. and how to make friends and influence people. both from same author.: another book called how to make anyone do anything, its a psycology-self help book very practicalby david lieberman i think. you might want to STAY AWAY from the rich dad poor dad series, since theres lots of controversy involving this author by the fact he worked on MLM networks etc, you can yahoo or gooogle it about the so caleld controversy. And one final comment, to keep drowsyness and boredom low while reading, i recommend you to pick a random chapter of the books i suggested. Just open the book and read that chapter only for that day(assuming you barely have time to read). Its fun. Looking at random chapters enables repetition on your memory thus making it easy to remember. (you will notice that you already read that chapter, but only do this if you wanna re-read the chapter, if not, then choose another random chapter till you finish reading the whole book by one or two chapters a day),
- Had the same problem when I was younger. Honestly it all comes down to you discovering an author who's style works for you. The characters have to be likable and the language has to be on a level you can digest easily. If it hurts to get to the third chapter try some other book. Your attention span and appetite will broaden with age. At 21 you want something you can be entertained by. If you can deal with Science Fiction I suggest Robert A. Heinlein.
- O kay I'm probably going to get criticized for this suggestion but since you say you are 21, I'd say find some really good written porn. That will get you reading, I'll guarantee.
- First of all you shouldn't force yourself to read, it will become a chore not a joy. I would suggest you start small, do you have a hobby that interests you ... fashion? makeup? cars? movies? what ever it is you will find a magazine that relates to it. You could buy one and read it on the bus going to work, during break times or when you have a spare five minutes. Once you have started this you could develop your interests.. interested in fashion... maybe read a models autobiography.. interested in sports read a book written by your favourite sports star or about the history of your favourite team. Do you admire someone.. like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luthor King, Winston Churchill read a book about their lives. If Non-fiction isnt your thing there are hundreds of genres of novel from Austen and Dickens (they may be a bit heavy for a non experienced reader) to Harry Potter, Chick-lit and Mills and Boon. Don't go for long novels.. maybe a collection of short stories or Novellas to start and if you enjoy them find more by that author and similar authors. There is a genre out there for you and dont be discouraged if you havent found it yet, Keep looking!!!
- Discussing what you read with someone who is interested. These days, that's tough to find. If you are not interested, then don't read. No incentive? So what? Forcing yourself to read at 21 is plain stupid if you just get bored. I suggest, however, that you finish any book that you start reading, particularly if it was recommended to you by someone who has read it. You are not getting the payoff, which is at the end. If the author could have had a worthwhile book halfway through, the author probably would have stopped there. I am also willing to bet that you find yourself reading and suddenly can't remember the last 5 pages. Only read as long as you are ACTUALLY READING, and then stop. Just pick the book up again later that day, or the next day. If it must be a chore, make it a SMALL chore. If nobody is paying you to read, there is no point wasting the few remaining minutes of your life pretending to better yourself. How about this? Try reading these two books as an adult (i.e. not a teenager): "A Tale of Two Cities" by Dickens, and (if you made it through that) "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo. Seeing a film version of either won't ruin the reading experience, but don't see them if you haven't yet. The second is heavier than the first, but the payoff is tremendous if you make the effort.
- That is not an easy question to answer because people are different and what motivates one person might simply put another person to sleep. I blame today's technology on the lack of interest in reading because information today comes at us at the speed of light. To the question at hand: I find personally I need to be somewhere there are no distractions and it must be a place that is quiet. Next: to me it's important how the material was written some people can write 5 paragraphs for something that could have taken less then a sentence-(I can't handle those writers). Lastly If the material is something I'm really interested in it will keep my attention. Well that's my suggestions.
