Reading train - Improve your reading skills

What do i need to do to improve my IB English A1 reading and writing skills - practically?

I have a very strict English teacher and he gives us participation grades every class. I can never get more than 17/20 and he says that its cuz I take too long to get to my point. I have pretty good vocab cuz I read a lot of extra-curricular material, but I apperantly need to get to my point faster. How do I do that?

1. Address your point right off, then build around that explaining what you mean. Say "I think ---" (or whatever) "because ---" then explain why and go into detail then.
