Reading train - Improve your reading skills

I never read books, and have never read one, i am dyslexic, but want to start reading, please suggest some :)?

I never read books, and have never read one, i am dyslexic, but want to start reading, please suggest some :) So please don't recommend a book which is too long and which would be difficult to read as a dyslexic person. But anyway, i love all kinds of genre of films like horror, thriller, comedy etc..., so i guess it will be the same for books. Remember nothing too long and complicated or expensive! If you reply, then thanks a lot :) I'm 17 male, i love films, anything horror or action, i like war of the worlds, saw, scream, switchblade romance, etc... I think i would like a horror book, nothing too big, something i can read in a couple of days.

  1. 000,02 leagues under sea the. It's really a great book.
  2. Got to give a bit more info. How old are you (do you need something easy to read, but with more to it, for a 16 year old, or simpler ideas too, for a 12 year old)? Name a couple of those films you like. There are books out there for every one, but you'll get better ideas here if you tell us more.
  3. Audio books. You can get them at your local library and listen to the stories. Even tho' there is nothing better than reading, this would give you a break and the nicest thing about audio books is that your hands are free so you can do other things and keep your mind occupied. I have rental property and I get them when I have to paint. Painting is so time consuming and so boring so I listen to books and paint away. I get dyslexic when I get tired and reverse numbers and letters and strangest of all I even type dyslexic. I often type put for but and on and on. I have to really check what I type. I've never heard of that before but it sure happens to me. . .
  4. i am dyslexic too.i like the book the carpet baggers.its a crazy book that will keep you interested.good luck
  5. You can go to your public library and check out all sorts of book for free. All you need is a library card. A lot of movies have novel versions, mabye if there is a movie you like, you can read the book? Those are usually pretty light. Stay away from the classics, those are kind of difficult to read. Mabye read some mystery novels? Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Connan Doyle, Carlyon Kene...check those out. Also, read books on your intrests. Do you like to play sports? Well, there are several books written on every sport known to man. Also if you like animals, there are several animal books. EDIT: There are several books on films and film making which are pretty easy readers.
  6. A Holy Bible would be good to start off with. Although very long you can start off with a childrens basic bible and pray that the Lord will teach you how to read better.
  7. I got this book for three dollars in a used book store. It's not very long. Even though the title, and even the name of the author may seem like hard words, the story itself is simple but good, thrilling, and-- well, good. "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho 2nd ADD: I put this after I saw your addition: try "Dracula" by Bram Stoker.
  8. if you want to find out what reading level your disability (no offense intended) puts you at you can try the accelerated reader list, it lists by grade level and give popular recommendations, i have included a link below. Also, i agree with towanda, i have a convergence insufficiency and audio books were very helpful to me and you CAN get them at almost any library, also, i don't know if large print versions may make it easier or not. Janet Evanovich is a good author for a fun and light hearted mystery/action/ romance. if you want a little more gore try Patricia Cornwell or somewhere in between would be Sue Grafton
  9. check with your local social services to see if they have (free?) programs for people with dylexia and/or suggested reading lists
  10. Anything by Scott Westerfeld is good. I suggest his Midnighters trilogy, or his Uglies trilogy. The Giver is really good, short book. You may be interested in "The Looking Glass Wars". Yea, its a spin off of Alice in Wonderland, but a really sort of dark and twisted version so it's not what you might imagine. Also, if you find the right ones, vampire/werewolf books are always a fun read. Caroline B Cooney wrote a nice vampire trlogy, its not your typical vampire love story. Maximum Ride, by James Patterson is also a really amazing story. If you're looking for a good, short mystery try Agatha Christie. Or you could try getting a book of short stories. I recommend Neil Gaiman, Steven King, etc. Also Coraline by Neil Gaiman is a short, good read. Sorry, i dont read too many short books, haha but these are mostly YA books
  11. I would start out with short stories - either Edgar Allen Poe or something like "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". These stories are fairly short, not difficult to read, and classics of horror Also, free online, so you can adjust the text to whatever size you like. Jim ⌘ http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com ⌘
