Reading train - Improve your reading skills

Reading books?

I'm not an incredibly fast reader. I read at a naturally slow pace, just to sulk in all the words and grasp the full meaning of what I'm reading. I know that mostly everyone says to 'read at your own pace,' however, what I'm wondering is that if I continue to read will I gradually read faster, as it will come naturally to me, or will I stay at the same pace?

1. The more you read the faster you'll get at reading. It's like you're practicing., the more you practice the better you'll get.
2. Practice makes perfect. Reading, in some ways, is a lot like sports. You gain from experience. The more practice, the better you get it. Repetition, my friend; it's beautiful. Keep reading, keep writing, keep that mind active and it will do wonders for you. Judging by your written question, you seem to have a profound penchant for the written word.
3. I've been reading slowly for my whole life. but I love to read, and I always have, and I always do. I agree; it's better to savour the words and the meaning. it's about enjoying it, not getting through it fast. the ones who love it for what it is are the ones who can learn something from it. anyway, yes, my reading does go faster sometimes, depending on what I'm reading. if I'm just scanning for information, I can skim down a page really fast. if it's not very interesting I sometimes will read a little more quickly to get to the good bits. but my choices for what I read for fun are always things I select that I will read at all kinds of differnt paces. sometimes a single page can absorb my attention for hours. the more you read, the more you will be able to control time within your reading periods so you can get the most out of what you are reading. faster, slower, whatever.
4. It will come naturally. I'm a self-confessed bibliophile and I didn't mind my reading pace, I just kept on devouring books till my mom warned me to let my eyes rest (!). It will come naturally. Like they say, slowly and surely, the grass will grow! Godspeed!
5. You'll read faster(: I know for a fact I read 5x faster than I used to read.
