Reading train - Improve your reading skills

What to do to improve my reading level?!?

My reading level is really low..I'm in 11th grade right now..and I think my reading level is only around like maybe 8-9th grade, and I'm taking college level classes(AP) and also struggling to pass tests in that class because of my reading comprehension and low reading level. What can I do to improve my reading skills?! Also, if you know a website to take the STAR reading test please give me the link! thanks!= )

  1. Only thing I could think of is just to read more. Maybe out loud and a variety of things. Not just the same old books or magazines. Good luck!
  2. read more.
  3. I think reading comprehension is low because we aren't interested in the subject and also because some of the words used are not understood. I would get some books on something you like or are interested in. Read it with a dictionary and when you don't know the word, look it up. Then write next to the word the meaning or new word that you will remember. I still, at times, skip over parts of a book/chapter that goes far to deep into descriptions. I mean it goes on forever. But I scan it just in case it means something. But it takes practice to read and remember/understand. So read more and learn the words.
  4. The more you read the higher your reading level will be. Vary the levels of what you're reading. Read some middle school level stuff, some highshool level stuff and some college level stuff. Read fiction and nonfiction. Read the backs of shampoo bottles and other assorted things around the house. If you're having trouble with comprehension, stop every couple of paragraphs and ask yourself what's happening in the story (if fiction) or what do I need to remember in this section (nonfiction). Stick with it.
  5. read more and increase ur vocab... it'll help u a lot...
