Reading train - Improve your reading skills

Situation: Reading books or working out? What would you choose?

Suppose you had limited time in your everyday lives in which you could do either of the two activities: a. Read books and novels b. Exercise, work out, play sports Imagine you are in a tough job with long working hours, which leaves you with hardly any time left for other activities. You either care for your health, work out a lot, exercise, play some sport, go out for camping on the weekends, etc. sacrificing reading. Or as a voracious reader and intellectual, you read in your little available free time, giving working out and exercising a toss... What would you do if you had to choose only one at the expense of the other? and Why? You cannot do both.

  1. If you have a stressful job I suggest you work out in the beginning of your journey then maybe mix it up after that.
  2. you can walk and read book thats good for your health and brain!! :)
  3. I would most definitely choose reading, I hate working out anyway, i just do it to be healthy, but if I had to choose the books would win because it is so relaxing to curl up on the couch with a blanket, good book and a cup of tea
  4. Work out
  5. I'll take the BOOKS!!! Reading is as essential to me as air and water....life without books is unthinkable!
  6. well I need to work out but I love to read. so I guess work out....and read while running. lol
  7. I will read books. I know I have to do some exercise...but I'm very skinny and healthy...I don't have to try to burn extra calories.
  8. I would choose to work out. Most people who choose to read do so because they want quiet time to themselves: if i wanted quiet time, I would do something less strenuous, such as yoga, and when I needed to loose some calories I would do something more strenous, like lifting weights or dancing. I think this way, I'd get the best of both worlds.
  9. Both are very important! You should not sacrifice your health nor your intellect! Anyone who is serious about earning his or her way to the top of the corporate world must read, 1.) Corporate Rise: The X Principles of Extreme Personal Leadership and 2.) Compliance and Conviction: The Evolution of Enlightened Corporate Governance. Drawing from his personal experiences and those of several of the most successful international corporate leaders in the U.S., Europe and Asia, Dr. Curtis J. Crawford, Ph.D. has assembled a set of eleven principles for extreme personal leadership and outlined a clear-cut strategy for both aspiring and seasoned leaders to become X-Leaders.
  10. There is no reason you can not have the best of both worlds. If your time is limited, one day read something of interest and the next free time you have do something that is a physical activity. If I had to chose one over the other, you said being an intellectual? I would do the smart thing and figure out how to do BOTH!!
  11. You can and should do both. No time is an excuse. I have worked with many Shift Workers and 12-14hr days were common. Even at a minimum you should attempt to get 20-30minutes of exercise in a day. Who say's you can't read while on an exercise bike for 15min and then go through a functional circuit training session to get in the resistance training. If you have 30 minutes to spare you can do both...if you have even more time than that...sounds like you have about an hour than you can easily divide that for both. Caring for your health is not a luxoury...its a neccissity. If you don't take care of your body it will breakdown even faster than it naturally does...this equals, sickness, disease etc. which will cost you big $$$ in sick leave. Both can be done...find a fitness professional that can create a game plan to suite your schedule and lifestyle.
  12. FROM WHAT YOU DESCRIBE, IT APPEARS THAT YOU ARE DOING WORK WHICH DOES NOT CALL FOR PHYSICAL LABOR. GO FOR OPTION b. PLAYING FIELD SPORTS WOULD BE IDEAL.
  13. I am in that very situation. Try to balance the two. You don't have to workout a long time for it to be healthy. I have a treadmill in my home and I use it for an hour at a time, 4 days a week. It's best to get up early and exorsize before work, then eat a good breakfast. That way when you get home, you have the evening free to read.
  14. Definitely b, i would exercise, work out, and play sports any day before i would read!!!!
