- Break it into smaller parts. Read it one page at a time, and use your finger to scroll down the page. It forces you to pay attention. Also, reading outloud is a good way to force attention.
- just don't read it
- It sucks I know. -- I have read SO MANY books since I got out of college that I should have read IN college. Now I read them because I want to and it's fun. Not because someone is telling me to.
- Make sure you are where there are few distractions and just get started. Once you get through the first chapter, many times you'll find that the book turns out to be pretty interesting after all. Keep an open mind and give it a chance. I find reading while soaking the tub is a good way to get started.
- Get yourself into a situation where anything else you could possibly be doing is way more boring than reading the book. Then you'll want to read it instead of doing even more boring things. (change boring to pressing if you are a procrastinator)
- Just pick it up and start slogging through. It helps if you allow yourself enough time to only read a bit at a time. If your assignment is three chapters, try and break it up so you're only reading one chapter at a time. But, who knows, you may find yourself getting into it after awhile. A lot of books don't sound that exciting and have boring introductions, but once you get into them, they're pretty good.
- Break it down into parts. Make yourself. I hated reading The Call of the Wild for a class of mine. It had seven LONG chapters and I made myself read 1 chaper daily and finished it in a week. You could rent it on tape or CD and listen to it. Also try Sparknotes.com.
