My eyes get tired when I read. How can I improve my reading skills?
I also read slowly. Can my reading skills be improved? I can't last reading more than 50 pages. Please help..I need it for my college. I got my eyes checked already and I'm wearing eye glasses right now. I also want to improve my comprehension skills. Can you give some tips for this?

- dont read in the dark then
- 1. Have your eyes checked by an opthalmologist for potential eye problems. 2. Take a reading improvement course (Sylvan ,for example) 3. Take a speed reading course (Evelyn Wood, for example)
- when u read make sure there is plenty of light eat carrots they help strength eyes maybe reading glasses
- Wear reading glasses to magnify the words when you read. Also, read in full light (put a desk lamp right above where you are reading).
- Try to keep thinking a juicy sex scene will be coming-up soon-maybe on the next page.
- Maybe you read slowly because you are not used to it! Start reading short books, the news, magazines.. Now, if your eyes hurt when you read it may be because you need glasses.. To be sure, I suggest that you go see a doctor for that! Didn't you need to read in high school?
- do yoga place the book on your eyes at smack your hand har on to of the book. THAT SHOULD DO IT!
- One thing is to get some tinted lenses if you wear glasses because it cuts the glare and your eyes don't get so tired. To increase speed start trying to read two words at a time instead of just one, its not too hard and from there you can move to three and four words.
- reading glasses and also, try audiobooks!
- If your eyes get tired, that means you have eye problems. Maybe you should get glasses, or try reading in more light. As for your slow reading, there are many programs and CDs that you can use to improve your P.P.M. (paragraphs per minute) factor. I had the exact same problems you're describing, and I used one of those "nitro-reading" CDs. It really helped.
- First, have your eyes checked to make sure you don't need glasses. Read in plenty of light. Don't do a reading marathon, instead take a break every 10 or so pages to think about what you just read. This will help you remember more of what you read. Don't wait until the last minute if you have a lot to read for school. Also, the more you read, the faster you'll get.
- Change your environment regularly. I love reading, but my eyes aren't so great either. I have found that if I just change rooms every 20-30 minutes I can read longer. And that means simply going from the desk, to the bed, from the bed to the couch, from the couch to the floor, from the floor to the table, from the table to the swing outside, to the park, to the library, to the river, to my favorire hiking trail....keeping your mind and body stimulated at the same time :) Good luck
- Have eyes checked, plenty of light, and read for a while stop and take a break. If you can find the subject on cd or tape try that.I had the same problem in high school. My eyes hurt so bad.50 pages?!Thats alot of reading. No wonder your tired.
- hey man...I read slow in college as well. You might want to ask someone at your college on how to improve your reading comprehension skills. I was in the library a lot reading my books. I think someone here suggested takeing some type of class. I'd ask your counselor or check it out online. I wish I would have been better at that. But, if your eyes are getting "tired" too, then yeah, I'd go to an eye doctor and get your eyes checked out. So, bottom line....get them both checked out. Might help improve your college experience and keep you out of the library for hours on end.
