- Saxon has some good online activities that your brother can practice with. When you go to the link, preview the available activities by browsing the Resource Titles. The phonics activities for Kindergarten would be the most age / developmentally appropriate for a 5 year old beginning reader.
- First, get some definite time off that computer! If he gets addicted to computer, video games, and TV at 5 - it is going to be even worse as he goes on. You read to him as a brother, your parents should read to him - take him to the library and start finding his book interests. Second, for treats on the computer for doing real reading, try www.starfall.com.
- Here are a few free sites: http://www2.scholastic.com/browse/languagearts.jsp http://www.eduplace.com/kids/games.jsp http://www.starfall.com/ http://pbskids.org/lions/games/ http://www.sadlier-xford.com/phonics/control_page/front2.htm
- www.starfall.com is a really good sight and geared for his age. You can also help him out by simply READING TO HIM. Take him to the library and have him pick out books he likes and read them to him. You can help him with Kindergarten high frequency words. http://www.tolland.k12.ct.us/pkr/specials/chuschle/HighFrequencyWordLists.html There are some suggestions at this website to give you ideas. You can also help him write his own books. Take stickers and put one on each page and he can dictate a sentence that you help him write. There are many things you can do. Starfall is good because it goes over the sounds of letters.
