Reading train - Improve your reading skills

Improving reading skills?

I have a relative (an adult) who has difficulty reading. She reads at the level of a 5th to 6th grade level. She is embarrased to take classes to improve her reading. I would like to buy her something that would let her progress into the next level of reading (at the high school level) for christmas. Any suggests on a program I could buy her-books, dvds, videos?

1. Find something she LIKES to read. Could be romances, porn, whatever it is. Libraries and the internet have plenty. Or reading about a hobby. Some people just don't like to read much. So what. Maybe they are happier. Don't embarrass her.
2. Speed reading for comprehension will do wonders.
3. I would recommend a reading class in college. This has helped me a lot with my skills.
