How can I get into reading books more? I am really big into video games. Don't get me wrong, I am not a computer or gaming "geek" by any terms, but it is just what I like to do. I like reading about them, buying them, and spending most of my time playing them. I have always "liked" reading, but lately I don't spend much time actually doing it. I got "Cell" by Stephen King as a gift for Christmas, and I love reading it. I actually enjoy taking the time to sit down and read. The problem is, I rarely actually find books like this. The only others I can remember me being obsessed with are "The Kite Runner" and the "Harry Potter" series. I want to be able to be as obsessed with books as I am with video games. I know quite a few websites to go on to learn all about video games, but nothing about books. Maybe a social site to get information about books, or book review websites, anything. I really want to make reading a much bigger part of my life. I thank anyone greatly for any help!
How do I convince the school board to change summer reading books? Every summer, our school has books they make us read.. out of a list of books very uninteresting.. How do I convince the school board to let us choose our books, so we don't have a bunch of uninteresting books to choose from? We should learn to enjoy reading by reading interesting books, not reading a very descriptive book on the cold war or something like that.
Can you make a living by reading books? I absolutely love to read books of any genre. I'm found everyday with my nose in a book for over an hour. I was wondering if it's possible to make a living by reading and reviewing books.
What are some good books that I could start reading? I use to read classics, but I haven't read a whole book since 9th grade. I really want to get into reading books again. It might improve my vocabulary and it seems like a good way to use my time because I'm always bored.
How can I get a copy of the one of the reading books I used in grade school? There were a few really great short stories in those books. I can't remember the titles to the stories or the books they were reprinted in. I do remember that they were published in a McGraw&Hill reading book, in the 70's and for the Omaha Public School District. Both of the stories I'm thinking about were sci-fi shorts.
I want to start reading more books ? Im in my twenties and I want to start reading books. Does anyone have any suggestions for great books I could read that would keep me interested in reading?
Where can I find a job reading audio books? I work as a customer service rep from home now and I have an excellent speaking voice. I want to start a career reading books or doing voiceovers. I know I can pay for "agent" websites that can help me find a job, but I do not want to pay anything to start. Hope someone can help!

What book would u suggest to introduce to a person who wants to try reading books for a hobby for the 1st time A friend of mine wants to try reading books as a hobby. This is the first time he's going to try. He's now 21yrs. What book would u suggest me to introduce to him so that he's not scared off at the volume and high standard english of the book. Also. the book should be interesting enough for him to take up reading as a hobby. Any suggestions? Plz suggest some books that are universal. I live in India so not that many english books that are famous abroad do come here. I do have access to very famous ones though... Is harry potter part one a good idea?
Pros and cons of reading books versus listening to audiobooks? When reading a novel in class, our teacher plays the audiobook, while we're following along in the real book. It's fairly helpful. I've never listened to an audiobook outside of class, and therefore haven't listened to one without a book there. What do you think? With which is it easier to follow along? For which genre are audiobooks best? Are they better for long description, dialogue, or stream of consciousness? Are audiobooks hard to find/expensive?
At what age did you start reading books by yourself? Not picture books, but novels for young people? I think I was about five or six. Also, if you have children, at what age did they start? If they don't read, then what do they do instead? I'm just curious because a friend of mine was telling me about her young cousin (who is six years old) and he never reads anything. Instead he spends hours playing computer games, which I don't think really helps with his development.
What are three books that make you love reading? I love to read. If you're answering this question, you do as well. Please name three of your must read books. If you like, ignore the lists of basics of literature, and present books you've been trying to convince other people to read.
How to stop feeling sleepy while reading books? I really had enough sleep and it is already time for me to read my books for my school exams. I always feel sleepy and could not concentrate since I always feel sleepy by merely looking at it. I did drink coffee but still, the same things happens. Please help me get over it. Suggestions are highly appreciated. I could actually take time flipping few pages like 10 pages of the book before I feel sleepy again but I just feel the my studies are so rigorous that I could not even take time to sleep again or I will just fail.
What are the benefits of reading i.e. news articles and books? I am currently a graduate and want to keep up my skills. therefore I am reading magazines such as computerweekly and newspapers such as "the times" in order to help keep up my skills which i have developed during my degree. Alongside beginning to read books such Ice station/Temple by Matthew Reilly. However, I just wondered what the real benefits were of reading as opposed to watching news on the TV etc?
Do You Have Fond Memories of Reading Books? I do. Even though I don't read much anymore (I'm trying to read more though), I remember reading about teenage ghosts and the sky raining food. These I did on my couch when golden sunlight seeped through my windows as well as during reading class in school. This was all during a time when computers weren't such a huge factor in my life. Books were the best way to gain information. You can share some experiences if you'd like. Thanks.
How do I find time to do stuff like reading books? I get so addicted to Yahoo Answers, or I am going to appointments that people invite me to. Throughout the past few years I have accumulated lots of books that I have hardly read... how do I find time to read them? or get myself to actually read them? (I work 5 days a week, normally working hours) I meant I work normal hours
What are some good summer reading books? I'm looking for some good books to read over the summer. Here is a little bit about my taste in books: LOVE: Twilight saga, The Catcher in the Rye, Anything by Meg Cabot (I've read all the priness diaries) S.E. Henton, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Narnia, historical romance novels, Series of Unfortunate Events (read all of these), Wizard Of Oz HATE: Harry Potter, The Call of the Wild, other fantasy books, The Scarlet Letter, certian other classic novels...
Do you think that reading books is actually quite an anarchic thing to do? I often encounter people who boast 'I've never read a book in my life' (I include my brother in this!) as they seem to believe books are things invented by 'them' to oppress 'us'. But I have always believed that reading is a rebellious thing to do - no one (except in extreme dictatorships) can stop us getting information in this way and stop us getting knowledge from the universe of published works - knowledge is power - 'they' don't want us to have power, and so we, as readers, win! Do you agree that bookworms are powerful people?
Do you always find yourself reading books with a similar theme? For example, I have been obsessed with fiction about orphans (Anne of Green Gables, etc, etc.) since early childhood. I've noticed that a very large percentage of the books I read have this element. Looking at my bookshelf, I think I'm also more attracted to books with a green cover than to books with other colors on the cover. :-(
How can my wife start reading the postive books? Hello all, I am very aggressive reader of positive and motivational books and I realized a lot of change in myself due to these readings. Now I want my wife should also read but she don't have any interest in these types of books. Please suggest the best strategy how she can start reading these books
Reading Books -.-*? It is Summer!!! But instead of hanging out with friends I am staying at home to read books. I heard that you can sometimes get more from reading one book and analyzing it instead of reading 100s of them very quickly. Is this true? I would like to increase my vocabs and reading comprehension very much so that I could read complicated books like Modame Bovary and A Tale of Two Cities. I also would like to understand important quotes and philosophies in the books. I enjoy reading but sometimes i just don't understand some things. I am a junior. and i will be taking AP English Literaturea & Composition. I want it to be a a great and useful experience (and also fun of course)...so here's the question: how can i read something quickly but at the same time understand it very well. do good critical thinking based on the book.? i tried asking myself questions about the book...but it is difficult to do. any sites? i heard that reading outloud can improve critical thinking too? does it?
Reading Books? Is reading books to you exciting or boring? (Not including text books)? I love to read, especially historical fiction.

reading books? can i read books online??? for example like true to the game or sumthin like that..
Reading books? I'm not an incredibly fast reader. I read at a naturally slow pace, just to sulk in all the words and grasp the full meaning of what I'm reading. I know that mostly everyone says to 'read at your own pace,' however, what I'm wondering is that if I continue to read will I gradually read faster, as it will come naturally to me, or will I stay at the same pace?
reading, books? do u love reading? if u do then how does it feel? does it feel good to read instead of thinking of something else
Reading books? Do you analize booj when you reading it or you think about the plot or what do you do?

I love reading books but.... please read details.? I love reading books cause I grew in a bookstore. Now in my 15 I have read thousands of books especially fantasy books. But I am closed to myself. In school when the other were playing football I was reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I bet that no one in my city have read so many books as me. I'm addicted in reading books, so I hope that you will have some advices for me. Shall I stop reading books and go out or keep reading? If I keep reading do you know any reading or writing competition? Dear Friends thanks a lot for the interest but i have read all the books you suggested except the last from David
Do you read books lower than your "reading level"? As children we often find books with reading levels. Most didn't have them but we got a general idea of what age group the books went for. I have loved many young adult authors, but now I feel like I'm too old for reading them again. What I'm asking is...do you read books even though you know you are older than the intended readers of the author would be? Like if you grew up reading an authors books and as you grow up you forget about them and move onto more mature readings. I wouldn't think any less of anyone if I saw them reading a book that is below what they can be reading...but sometimes when I ponder bookstores I find myself walking by the young adult sections and finding books i didn't even know existed from authors I loved years back. Maybe its a series that took to long to finish before you grew up. I sometimes just feel embarrassed for wanting to read those books because I know I'm too old to be reading it.

Do you like reading books online? I've seen lots of questions about reading books online. I found the site below for anyone that is interested. My Books and More Books http://www.my-booksandmorebooks.net is a web site that has lists of adult books that can be read online on the Adult_Books page and children's books and fairy tales that are either read to children on the computer or can be read from selected books a lot of which have illustrations on the Kids_Page. For people interested in the most recent book from their favorite author there is a New_Books page which lists a lot of sources for finding new books as well as a short list of the newest books that I have found. That page also has a link to the library and a new site link to "Library Elf" which helps you keep track of when your books are due so that you will never have to pay a fine again. There are many other pages that may be of interest.
Reading books and improving writing and speech? I love reading books. People tell me reading books help improve in those two areas. But, it doesn't seem that way. Is it because you have to read a certain book because the only books i like reading are those fantasy books. Like Harry Potter, Eragon, LOTR, Narnia, etc.
e-books: who is reading them? I see a lot of questions on Yahoo Answers about e-books and it makes me wonder, who is reading them and what do they like about them? I have worked in both publishing and libraries, yet I don' t know anyone who owns has an e-book reader. I read newspapers and journals at my desktop and via Blackberry. I have read books online. But if I want to sink my teeth into something, I will always prefer to actually have the item (newspaper, book, or mag) in my hand. I have never LOVED an e-book. Something about the medium makes it seem frivolous like some blog entry. Maybe I am just an old fart at 30. So I'm interested. If you read E-books why do you like them? Is it just the convenience? How old are you? Please tell me there are some pre-teens out there who read books!
Does reading in school ruin the general enjoyment in reading books? I used to read alot on my own...but I believe school gradually decreased my interest to the point where i can't stand reading...i think its because we only read books that r important and played a role in history...and then we begin to believe that we dont like books cause we never liked doin reports on em...Books begin to intimidate students...when most students think of books they think of boring hard work and boring assignments and reports and projects...I believe reading in English class ruins the whole enjoyment of reading. Why do we read books that we don't want to read in order to enhance our reading skills? Is this a corrupt system?
Reading Books Online? I am 13 so don't put websites for classics i recently started reading Jenny Nimmo's series but i read books so fast i am running out of money to buy and my library stinks so i need a website that i can read her books or other books that a 13 year old wouls read ( sports etc...)
I have a problem with reading books here....sort of....please look at details? Not really a problem WITH reading, but here it is: In school, our English teacher always gives us these books to read; as soon as we finish one, he gives us another. There are a few problems here; 1. I am a very slow reader, thus, I am always behind the class, and often need to catch up with the rest of the class. The thing with this, is that sometimes I enjoy the book, causing me to read it more enthusiastically, and understanding it, and sometimes it's the most boring piece of....work ever! 2. Other teachers also decide to give us books to read; books on Judaism, history, a story of the war, etc. The problem? I am a slow reader, so it is hard for me to get all of that reading done! 3. There are also a few books that I REALLY wanted to read! I borrowed a book from a friend recently, and have to return it by the end of the school year, and I borrowed another book from another person and I didn't even start it! I also have a choice of another book, and so little time !!!!!!!!!!!! To all of you who told me to talk to my teacher, I already asked her first thing if I could have some more time, because I am a VERY slow reader, and she said, "Oh, don't say that! I don't believe that it could take you more than 2 weeks to read this book!" And I cannot argue further or she'll dock points from my grade! Why? Because she's a !$#%#^!$#%(excuse my French please!) OK-here's the problem, I CAN'T do speed-reading, or I would have TRIED...not that I haven't...see, when you start learning to read in one language, then all of a sudden switch to another one, IT'S HARD! And at least I could do it pretty well! Though, since I've been reading English MUCH longer than I've been reading Hebrew, when I pray, it takes me HOURS more than everyone else, because I stutter while reading the Hebrew, or read it VERY EXTREMELY slowly....I actually cry during the long Shmonah Esreh on Yom Kippur, which is sort of good to do while davening, but whatever...=,'( OK, um, for that last question (REALLY no offence or anything), you see, I'm still in school, (high school), and I barely have enough time to do anything! Also, I still need my sleep, and time for homework, and time to help my mom with my brothers and sisters, etc. So life pretty much sucks for me.....thanks anyways though! =,'( Too hard to choose the best answer....I'll just call a vote...sorry!
downloading/ reading books from online..? heyy does anyone know where i can download free books from of read them from online, need to read this book and they are out at all the nearest book stores in town... and its not one of those books i can "sparnotes" or read cliffnotes for because it isnt in the "canon" and like not a well known reading. I love reading books.? I am reading books by Nicholas Sparks right now, and I love his books. I just recently read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, and loved those as well. I really like reading books about love and things like that. Does anyone have any good ideas I'm almost out of books to read and I need to go to the library but I don't know which one to read.
I never read books, and have never read one, i am dyslexic, but want to start reading, please suggest some :)? I never read books, and have never read one, i am dyslexic, but want to start reading, please suggest some :) So please don't recommend a book which is too long and which would be difficult to read as a dyslexic person. But anyway, i love all kinds of genre of films like horror, thriller, comedy etc..., so i guess it will be the same for books. Remember nothing too long and complicated or expensive! If you reply, then thanks a lot :) I'm 17 male, i love films, anything horror or action, i like war of the worlds, saw, scream, switchblade romance, etc... I think i would like a horror book, nothing too big, something i can read in a couple of days.
Summer Reading Books? My daughter is going to be entering 7th grade in September. Every year their school assigns every child with a summer reading packet. They have to choose 1 out of 3 books to read, and do an activity on it. I would like to know what you think of these books, and if you would recommed them. The books are: Tangerine[edward bloor] Running Out of Time [m. Peterson] and Walk Two Moons [sharon creech] thanks, only answer if you read atleast one of these books.
Reading Books Online?? I would like to read some newer books online, either biographies, or romances preferably, and some newer real life books also... I have not been able to find any sites that offer free online book reading, does anyone know of any sites?
I Love reading since i was a young girl but I stop reading books for a long time. Any good book suggestions? My Dream: Reading Books "How do I remember the texts?"? The majority of my dreams involves reading from something from somewhere, like a huge book, or bulletin boards or some pamphlets. But most of the time it's just books or notebooks. Sometimes the writings are so eloquent I couldn't have just made them out. But when I wake up it gets frustrating that I only remember at most two sentences. The dreams: I don't remember background details in my dreams very much. The only details I mostly remember is the medium the writings are in like a book or a notebook. They're usually old, sometimes there's nothing else but the book floating or some candles in the background. Sometimes I'm in a library, a museum, a small room, a church and on one occasion I was reading a billboard on a modern city. I'm more interested on remembering the texts but interpretations would be interesting too.
Does reading books with small text? Does reading books with small text (in compressed volume) affect my eyes in adverse way? I find compressed volumes suitable for storing and taking away the book from one place to another. However, someone told that reading such books with small text (bigger than newspaper text) will affect my eyes badly on the long run.
Reading books in Spanish? My wife is learning Spanish (fairly early stage). For Christmas I would like to get her some proper reading books. I remember finding Winnie the Pooh and similar books translated into Latin. Can anyone tell me whether (and where) I might be able to buy a similar type of book in Spanish - bearing in mind that I don't speak the language, so Spanish bookshops would not really help.
Favorite Thing About Reading/Books? I just started reading bout 2 or 3 months ago. I've been through about 8 books so far. I always thought that reading would be a choir. I would look at the hundred some what pages and just die! I guess school didn't help either. The stuff they have had reading. But anyway, now I love it! and I'm shocked. I am a reader. . . it feels weird to say. I read mostly horror/sci-fi stuff. So what is it about reading and books you like?
I have trouble reading books, what can I do? I have trouble trying to read books all the way through. I have a lot of half read books lying around. My attention span seems to be about 30 mins because that's about as long as I can read before I get bored and move onto something else. I have been diagnosed with ADD in the 2nd grade and am now 22 years old. I'm going back to college in a month and am trying to get back into the swing of reading and remembering information. Any help would be much appreciated!
What are the benefits of reading books and can it improve my social and speaking skills? I've never been an avid reader, I only ever read books when I had to in school. Sometimes I'll come across a book that a movie was based on and read it, and enjoy it. Right now I'm half way through the Band of Brothers book. Anyway, It always seems to be that book worms are very smart and articulate when they talk. I often mumble and sometimes don't get my point across when I talk. If I'm reading books, will it eventually improve my talking? Not sure if it matters but I read the newspaper everyday from start to finish, although it's a tabloid. I should probably start reading broadsheet newspapers and read more of the discursive sections.
Reading books is wasting time? You can get much more useful and new imformations by reading Internet site. What do you think? Is reading books still really good thing to do?
Situation: Reading books or working out? What would you choose? Suppose you had limited time in your everyday lives in which you could do either of the two activities: a. Read books and novels b. Exercise, work out, play sports Imagine you are in a tough job with long working hours, which leaves you with hardly any time left for other activities. You either care for your health, work out a lot, exercise, play some sport, go out for camping on the weekends, etc. sacrificing reading. Or as a voracious reader and intellectual, you read in your little available free time, giving working out and exercising a toss... What would you do if you had to choose only one at the expense of the other? and Why? You cannot do both.
Reading Books? EASY 10 POINTS!? How do you make reading books intresting? Or... how do you make it seem like your in the book?!? please help! HELP!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What should I do to stop reading books? I wish I could just read books everyday and all day, but it's impossible, because I have to go to school and work. I love reading books about any subject. Right now, I'm into reading about the Roman Empire and its collapse. To me, reading books is what gets me through hard and boring days. I love reading the stories of the past and it just amaze me. So how can I stop that?
addiction to reading books? im a complete book worm! i like reading becasue it helps me relax and calm down and not think about......bad stuff....is a way of putting it (you might want to check out my other ? for more details). but that's the problem! some people are addicted to drugs, or alchol, or food er somthing. but i seriously think im addicted to books. i could read for ever and ever and ever......what draws the line of an addictin && doing somthing for one's personal enjoyment? and is this a bad habit? yay! im not the only one! i completely agree-it relaxes me and makes me feel like i can be a completely different person. i dont think i can give out 10 points because i like all of the awnsers. thanks very much for you words of wisdom!
Since when is reading books a sin? i certainly don't think it is! as a muslim, i am ashamed at the way a few so-called muslims are reacting to salman rushdie's satanic verses. and i don't agree either with the way some christians have a strong opposition to harry potter. furthermore, some people don't read other people's religious texts, simply because it's not their religion. isn't it better to gain knowledge and to learn different perspectives? if God gave us free will and a brain, why then can't we all think for ourselves and refute books we don't agree with? if you really are strong in your beliefs, no book will be able to change that! i'm not trying to lump all religious people into one category. i just wanna know: what religion you are? do you think reading a book that may contain ideas contrary to your beliefs is a sin? why or why not? also, what kind of books do you read that might be considered controversial?
summer reading books for a 14 year old girl? i really love books that have to do with romances..like teenager romance not older romances. i also usually seem to like books that take palce in summer camps or something of that sort. im planning on doing a lot of reading this summer so give me lotts! i know i LOVE twilight and New Moon..i've already read them both 2 times! they're just amazing =]
I lose concentration and or forget what I just read when reading books? Ok so there's been tons of books I've read about thirty five pages of, then put it down and never get back to it. The problem is, when I read books, I can't get into them. I find a lot of the time, I'll read a few pages and then stop and realize I didn't take in what I just read. I'll also realize I don't remember what I just read. Or I'll lose concentration and I just cant read it and I put it down. I can read, I'm not illiterate I was taught to read at a young age and I did so so it's not that. Why can't I get into books like I used to be able to? Is it distractions? I don't know because I don't know of anything distracting me. Is it I can't find a comfortable reading position? Is it some mental thing? I'd like to get this fixed so I can get back to enjoying a good book... I have so many I've picked up, walked into, and put down... I have glasses but I rarely use them, and I haven't tried using them when reading. Perhaps I should try that and see what happens. By the way good responses so far, thanks everyone! I thought maybe it would help if I listed some of the recent books I've tried to read, they all have things in them or themes I am interested in of course, and this is why I chose to read them but maybe there is something about the author's style or something that makes them harder to read? Here they are: - The Science Fiction Hall of Fame (a collection of vintage science fiction short stories) - Break Contact, Continue Mission by Raymond Harris (a Vietnam War story) - It Gave Everybody Something to Do by Louise Thoresen and E.M Nathanson (a true story about a woman's experiences with an out of control husband who went on a crime spree)
i only started reading last year not sure what books to read next help!!? i am going on holiday and need to take some books but not sure what i will enjoy as only started reading books last year i am 21 and loved harry potters. i do not like the books like a boy called it as they are depressing. i want something that gets you gripped but not crime/historical. i have heard of a book about a plane crash where the woman on the plane thinks she is going to die and tells her life to the man next to her who turns out to be her boss do you know what this one is called will be grateful for any suggestions.

Why do people suggest reading books about relationships? It's so annoying to see people suggest books to read when people have real life problems such as a spouse who wants a divorce, or a spouse who is cheating, etc. When in the heck did reading a book ever help a person deal with problems in marriage when only one spouse is truly devoted to the marriage??? I have read enough self help books to open my own library. Many marriage books contain information that anyone with an ounce of common sense should already know. I'm not referring to asking for help for myself this time, I'm talking about someon else who asked a question in Yahoo Answers.
Know any good books worth reading? I love reading books but i cant seem to find anymore that interest me. I like alot of different things, mainly stories like tomorrow when the war began. i dont like the superficial high school drugs alcohol sex, there are way to many of those. Have any ideas that i could read? It would be appreciated. I also enjoy books that are tense, keep you on edge!
