What is the best way to increase my reading speed? I read very slowly in order to understand and answer questions that are related to the text. Are there any books you may recommend or certain strategies I can follow to overcome this issue.( speed reading) specially in proficiency tests like IELTS/TOEFL.
How do I get information for teaching speed reading to my students? I learnt speed reading when I was 11 and it has helped with work and study ever since. I want to teach it to my year 5 students but dont know how or where to find out. Is there a free website with information? I remember watching overheads with text flashing faster & faster, then completing written work. Is it still done this way?
Does speed reading really work? I don't find speed reading much effective for studying sceince subjects(Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics). I think the more slowly you read the more the concepts become clear. The faster you read the more you go past without understanding a thing. Is this just my problem or a general problem with speed reading?
Is it possible to speed-read and still retain information as if you were reading normally? Speed-read meaning you are consciously reading really fast, faster than what is comfortable. While you are reading it, you are still comprehending. I am wondering if you still retain the information after a month or so, and do you retain it better, worse, or the same as normal-speed reading. Any information on the subject of speed-reading is appreciated. Thank you very much. :)
How can I improve my reading speed? I’m a hopeless bibliophile; I love books and I love reading. I’ve got a stack of books I’m trying to get through (the top couple of books on the pile are Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Atlas Shrugged, and Freakonomics to satisfy the curious; I read all kinds of books) But I’m just not getting though them fast enough! It’s kind of frustrating sometimes. “So many books, so little time”, as they say. Dose anyone have suggestion on how I can increase my reading speed? It’s just fine as is, I just want to read faster so I can get more book read in a shorter amount of time. Are there books on the subject? Are there [low cost] classes that I could take? Do you have any simple tips? I’d love to hear your input.
How can I increase my reading speed for the SAT and ACT? My reading score on the ACT and critical reading score on the SAT suffer because of my reading speed. What are some ways I can improve my reading speed? Also, on these standard tests, what are your methods of answering? Do you read the questions first or read the passages first or etc.? I end up having to blind guess about 10 questions on the ACT every time.
What is the speed reading method where you...? Hi! Does anyone know what the speed reading method is where you simply scan over a page and are able to understand the basic of what's going on? Is that simply skimming, or is it called something else? Thank you so much. Happy Holidays. ---S D
Speed Reading on SAT Critical Reading Section/Test Taking Techniques? What are some test taking strategies or techniques I can use on the SAT, notably on the Critical Reading section? I've heard about speed reading, but if I speed read then I'll most likely skip over the important information (which means I'll have to reread some parts of the passage). Any other test taking techniques? I also tend to freak out about the time, and running out of time...pacing in general. this is my last chance with the SAT. I've already gone through The Princeton review text book (11 practice tests and the one with methods and 3 practice tests) and the College Board one.
Can someone recommend a software for speed reading???? Have 2 grade school kids and would like them to improve in their academic studies. Also, I planning to attend school in the fall, and would like to stay on tops of my studies too. Do anyone know of a software for speed reading. Thanks
Does anyone have any pointers on speed reading? I am taking a graduate class and we have been assigned a 200 - 300 page book per week. I have never been a particularly fast reader, but I guess I get to learn now. These are not books where I need to know every intimate detail, but understand them enough to talk about them intelligently. Do any of you have pointers on how to read books quickly while still retaining a reasonable amount of information?
What are some good tips for speed-reading? My friend's daughter has to read a novel over the summer for school, and she just wants to skim through it and know the basic information in each chapter to write summaries over it. Any tips? She says it's an awful, awful, boring book.
What is a really good free speed reading course??? I've tried the demo for that "Eye Q" and well that's just the demo and it was really good. My speed went up from that once. It only lets me do it once though... Is there another course really similar or just as good that's free??? Preferably online, but a download is fine as long as its gooood. Thanks God Bless
Please recommend a good reading speed training program? Hi all, I am looking for good training program to improve my reading speed in English. I am a slow reader and thus slow in digesting information and slow in everything. Thanks a lot! Is there a way I can respond to the answers to ask further questions? I don't know how to do that... Thanks for your answer! I want to ask if EyeQ really works? I've seen a lot of their ads from Internet... and also saw many other programs. I need more informations about how do they work and are these programs the same thing or are they similar things? How do I choose the best program?
Speed Reading...? I am planning on attending law school. One of my concerns is that I am naturally a very slow reader (English is also not my first language). It always bothered me but I dealt with in. I know there will be a great deal of material that I will have to read in law school and I want to learn some "speed reading technique". Has anyone tried it? What are the best book, programs, or/and classes that I can take to learn?? Also if I learn to speed read, will I be able to take in everything I am reading or will in just go "in one ear, come out the other"?
Speed Reading Course? Hello.. I recently realized that I must read better. I researched many programs, speed reading and such.. which included Rocket Reader, Evelyn Wood, Photo Reading (www.learningstrategies.com , Eye Q (www.eyeq.tv) , Reading Genius 2.0 (http://www.readinggenius.com) which is the most expensive. I just ordered the Reading Genius 2.0 program by Ed Strachar which seems to be the best and most complete. Anyone have any experience with any of these? I am real curious for feedback. Thx

Speed reading - recommendations? Is speed reading worthwhile? As a student, I'm reluctant to fork out a lot of money for a course, so can anyone recommend a book they have used? Or is it best to do a course? Or is it all a pile of rubbish? Thanking you in advance...
Reading..............? What's easier photo reading or speed reading? which one is easier to learn, photo reading cost money right?
do prefer slow reading or speed reading? Okay first, I have something to share with all of you. I have been reading ever since the first grade, I'm really into a lot of books, and I'm pretty fast at reading, but something just hit me today, that my conscience was telling me that I needed to slow down and not read to fast, and today I'm going to make the transition to become a slow reader forever... I know some people get so bogged down of their reading speeds and see all these commercial advertisements on TV and the Internet of how glorious speed reading is, and how it's better than snail reading, but why do some of you worry too much about it? Why can't some of you accept the cards that were dealt for you? Isn't better to read a novel at a slower pace than pressing fast forward on the speed reading button? Well, that's up to you to decide, but learn at your own pace I say, and take your time. So any of you prefer slow reading or speed reading? Any switches between slow reading to speed reading or vice versa?
Reading Speed Improvement Software? Does anyone know of any good speed reading software? I'm not into actual "speed-reading" and I know that speed reading makes your comprehension suffer- its just that I need to improve how fast I read, because I'm slower than my peers, which definitely matters on the SAT. I've looked into the "Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics", but that's not really what I'm looking for. I'm looking for SOFTWARE, not books or courses.
Speed-reading help? Do you have any tips on reading faster? It doesn't have to be speed-reading, but more than a page a minute with acceptable retention. I'm pretty intelligent, but thorough. Thus a moderately slow reader. I look up words. I pause and question, thinking through answers. I get emotionally involved; empathizing with those written about, feeling their situations, piecing it with my past experiences. This takes time, but can be helpful to cement ideas and cross-link them with previous knowledge. I habitually never reread books, but saturate myself in them in the first reading--retaining what's important, including subjective facets and my interpretations. I've tried speed-reading tips before (not a course), but the problem seems to be that I need the time to think over what I've read. Maybe I'm anxious over books I feel are "important" in some way, and that slows me down. But glancing quickly over the words doesn't seem to allow me the time to process what I've read. I'd love to find a way around this, if you know Maybe the correction could come in my retention techniques. Instead of pausing to think things over and ask questions as I read, maybe I should adopt a more standardized, streamlined pre-read/SQ3R/mind-map method, and just let the chips fall where they may on any given book. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!
Speed Reading!!!? Hello everyone, got a “sub-problems” teaser for ya. Be sure to show which fractions you used, don’t worry about showing how you calculated them. Enjoy! 1.“Reading Rate Pt. 1” If you read 15 minutes per day every day and end up reading 12 books of 200 pages each in 1 year, what is your reading rate in pages per minute? 2.“Reading Rate Pt. 2’ If you increase your reading speed so that each page takes you 30 seconds less than it did before and you begin reading 20 minutes per day, how many 200-page books can you now read in a year?

Speed reading course...? "In a haste to improve myself, I mixed up the numbers for the Schick Center for the Control of Smoking and the Evelyn Woods Speed Reading Course. As a result of my mistake, I can now smoke up to 300 cigarettes a minute, but I gave up reading." ~ George Carlin
Reading without subvocalization - speed reading? How do you read, well, apparently, you can dramatically increase your reading speed by eliminating subvocalization (saying the words in your head). Can anyone do this, it seems rather difficult as I would think you need to say words in order to mentally process the information. Also wouldn't it lessen the overall comprehension?
Speed reading/ Eye movement? Does anyone know where I can find out about speed reading - and the techniques involved in improving visual reflexes? The sites i've looked are pretty vague.
Speed reading? Has anyone ever taken a speed reading course and if so, was it worth it?
Has anyone tried THIS speed reading program? (better question this time)? For the past couple of weeks, I've been looking for ways to increase my reading speed. I bought one for $16, and one for $19, but neither worked. I avoided the Evelyn Wood ones because those usually cost around $300. Just recently, I "Stumbled Upon" this website (using the StumbleUpon toolbar): http://www.speedreadingisreal.com/ The website is hilariously cheesy sometimes, and uses every marketing tactic you've already seen. But it has a money-back guarantee, so I went ahead and bought it. Well I tried it, and practiced the thing for a while, and found that it actually works. Now here's the question: why is this the only speed reading product that doesn't have testimonials all over the website? I couldn't find a single one. It really doesn't add up. Can someone please explain?
speed reading? would you prefer a speed reading software or a speed reading booklet to learn speed reading and comprehension.....which offers promising results?
Speed Reading? Who can recommnend a good method / course on speed reading. I'm a good reader and can pump out 80 pages an hour in a novel and maybe half that in text book. But I'm looking at 12-15 texts per semester next year and I've got to get some shortcuts down. To the person that wanted to know why, first, thanks, second, a Doctorate in History requires a great deal of reading for reviews and even more for research. Need an edge. I'm smart.... but not a genius...... alas, only gifted. LOL
